Finding Your Subject (7th September, 2020)
What is your work really about?! This is a really hard question to answer, and one that artists can struggle with for as long as they are making work. However, it need not be a torturous process.
In this one-day practical workshop, you will be shown how to decide on, and recognise the narrative that drives your work -whether you are a painter, collage artist, sculptor or conceptual artist. A watercolour of a flower, may really be a study of a moment in time. A drawing of a fox, may not be of a fox at all, but instead an investigation into the qualities of materials - of both the subject and the drawing.
Morning - We will undertake a number of relatively quick drawings, each one un-picking a particular quality of your chosen subject. You will be shown how to capitalise on the qualities of different media to record what is important, as well as different editing techniques, that allow you to eliminate what is not needed.
Afternoon - Working from the studies you produced in the morning, you will have time to work on a small collection ofmore considered works in the afternoon.
