Abstracting Flowers (15th and 17th July, 2020) COURSE FULL
This two-day practical course aims to show you how to look beyond the cliché, and explore flower paintings in a more abstract and expressive way, and in your chosen media (such as collage, watercolour, acrylics, pastels etc.,).
Day One - Working from life, we will start the day investigating what qualities our subject matter holds. Moving amongst the flowers, holding them, smelling them, listening to them - you will be shown how to record the experience through mark making and drawing. Working primarily in black and white (colour comes tomorrow!), you will produce a series of at least four dynamic mixed media works by the end of the day.
Day Two - Today we look at the impact of colour in flower paintings. There will be exercises to help you edit and refine the abundance of colours and textures in front of you, before completing two (or more!) paintings or mixed media works by the end of the day.
Date: July 15th and 17th, 2020
