Experiments in Watercolour (9th and 11th September, 2020) COURSE FULL
This two-day practical course aims to show you how to take a fresh approach to working in watercolours, with particular emphasis on how they can be used in an expressive, experimental and painterly way.
Day One - The day will start with some guided expressive drawing exercises, in a variety of media, and from a range of subject matter. You will then be shown how to find ways of re-imagining your drawn marks in watercolour, using different tools - brushes, cloths, hands and sponges. Working in both large and small scales, we will aim to produce a series of six improvised watercolour variations by the end of the day.
Day Two - The day will start with a review of the watercolour variations you produced during day one. You will then be shown how to use these as the starting point for larger, expressive paintings. Borrowing marks and colours from your studies, you will be shown how these can be worked with different energies and at different scales, to produce at least two larger scale paintings by the end of the day.
